IoT in Healthcare Sector

The internet of things (IoT) is a collection of small devices connected to the web. Internet’s primary function is communication. The IoT has allowed to be more accessible and connected with one another devices. Most of the people go to the internet to retrieve information and communicate. IoT system also help to gather or transmit data to complete any task. Nowadays, IoT is the key factor of the digital transmission of healthcare industry, and this is called as IoHT (Internet of Health Things).

IoT based Health care Service

Remote Health Monitoring: The use of IoT in health care industry, is suitable for the system of the chronic diseases. Patients can use applications to connect medical devices or biosensors to allow doctors to see medical problems (blood pressure, heart rate, etc.) through the doctor app. Healthcare professionals can monitor this data 24/7 and explore the reports generated by the app to gain insights into health trends. Patients who show signs of bad health, they can easily scheduled for face-to-face visits to the doctor through the app.

Medication Tracking: IoT-based medication tracking allows health industry to monitor the impact of prescribed drug doses on the patient's condition. Patients can check their medication intake, for example through in-app reminders, and record in the healthcare system application how patient’s symptoms have changed for further analysis by their doctor. The applications can be connected to smart devices to facilitate management of multiple medications.

Advantages of using IoT technology in Healthcare Industry:

  • Medical IoT helps turn patients into active participants in the treatment process and improve treatment outcomes. IoT service helps to increase patient satisfaction with better treatment, from connections with the medical team, doctors or nurse to physical comfort.
  • Some patients can stay at home also and use medical IoT devices to contact, track, collect and send health data to medical facilities. Also, with the help of IoT technology, patients, and doctors can plan a doctor's visit or appointment without having to go to the hospital or clinic.
  • The application, connected to a biosensor, ensures adherence to discharge plans, instantly detects deviations from health, and offers the possibility to contact a doctor remotely at the right time.
  • Also, the connected nature of IoT presents some information security challenges for medical service providers and patients.

Enhance Care Delivery with IoT Applications

The use of IoT technology in the health care industry will continue to grow over the next decade, after the impact of the COVID situation and the growing demand for remote care.
